I Tested KylieSkin for 3 Weeks – Here Are My Thoughts

Hi! You might be shocked to see that I am writing yet another post about skincare… Oh well! I am super excited to be talking about the newest skincare products that I’ve been testing out – Kylie Jenner’s new line: KylieSkin.

Because Kylie is one of the most talked about celebrities in the world, people had a lot to say about her starting her own skin line. I’ll admit, I’m a big Kardashian/Jenner fan, so I was super excited to test this out.

As you all know, I have a lot of holy grail skin products, so I didn’t feel the need to buy her entire set. But, believe it or not, I am in the market for a good cleanser, moisturizer & eye cream. So, as you can imagine, I purchased those items from KylieSkin!

The other items in her line that I did not purchase were the Vanilla Milk Toner, Walnut Face Scrub and Vitamin C Serum. As always, everyone’s skin reacts differently to products. These were just my thoughts and results after 3 weeks of use on my combination skin!

Foaming Face Wash, $24

Let’s start off by talking about some of the ingredients in this cleanser. It has kiwi seed oil, which has Vitamin E and C that brightens and hydrates your skin. Love that. It also contains glycerin, which balances the oils and moisture of your skin – making sure you’re not too dry or too oily. The last ingredient I’d like to mention is that this face wash contains fragrance. My skin is not sensitive, so this did not effect my skin. But if you do have sensitive skin, I would refrain from using any products that contain fragrance!

Overall, I enjoy this cleanser! I currently have clear skin, so I’m unable to say whether or not this cleanser is good for acne or not. But I love the way this feels on my skin. The foaminess of it makes cleansing very gentle and leaves my skin feeling smooth afterwards. After toning, my cotton pad is makeup free – so it’s good to see this is actually getting that extra makeup off. I’ll definitely keep using this in my routine if I need a simple cleanse.

Face Moisturizer, $24

Like I mentioned earlier, I have combination skin. Meaning I’m not dry and I’m not overly oily. With that being said, and especially during the heat of the summer, I don’t need a thick and suffocating moisturizer. Which is exactly why I actually love this moisturizer. After using this, my face felt smooth and looked glowy and actually got rid of the dry skin around my nose.

The moisturizer contains shea butter, which you could imagine leaves your skin feeling hydrated. It also has glycerin and hyaluronic acid which plumps your skin. It’s important to also add that this product is fragrance-free, so sensitive skin folks don’t need to worry! I use this as my nighttime moisturizer and my skin feels great in the morning. I recommend testing this out if you’re just starting out with skin, or are in the market for something new.

Eye Cream, $20

Lastly, I need to talk to you about her eye cream – I love it. I’ll start off my saying that I do not suffer from major bags or dark circles under my eyes, but I do look majorly tired in the morning – like everyone else. I use this as my nighttime eye cream, paired with the moisturizer and I definitely see results the next morning. This cream has a yellow/banana tint to it, so it really does brighten and cancel out any darkness under my eyes. It also contains green tea, a little caffeine helps de-puff and get life back into those eyes! It also comes with a super convenient applicator, so you don’t need to stick your fingers into a dirty jar – you can just apply right from the tube.

I’ve only been using this for a few weeks, so I haven’t seen any differences in my crows feet – but I have noticed brightness and less inflammation!

I know I didn’t test out the entire set, but I really did enjoy the 3 products that I have incorporated into my skin routine. Again, if you have sensitive skin, please read the ingredients before using and make sure a product doesn’t contain anything that may irritate your skin. Were these the best products I’ve ever used in my life? No. But did they make my skin feel great and make it worth my money? Yes.

Have you tried any KylieSkin products? What should I try next?

AHA’s: What are they + Why are they necessary in your skin routine?

I am in no way claiming to be a skincare expert or professional, but I do take pride in being pretty educated on SKIN!

After years and years of testing out products and brands, reading up on my favorite beauty bloggers and keeping up with the trends, AHA’s have come up A LOT. Before I knew what they were, it was just some silly little acronym that I was too lazy to look into. But now, my skincare routine would be nothing without them!

Let me start off by explaining what the f AHA’s actually are. It stands for Alpha Hydroxy Acid – I know, sounds a little scary. Although it sounds like a chemical, AHA’s are actually derived from natural occurring ingredients in our environment, like sugarcane, milk & even grapes!

Why are they so great, you may ask? You guys all know how much I love to exfoliate. AHA’s are the ultimate exfoliator. Not saying they are the harshest and roughest – that’s not the case. I mean they do a great job at actually turning skin cells over and rejuvenating your skin. After that exfoliation happens, you reveal your fresh and smooth skin and at the same time, hydrate.

There are many different kinds of AHA’s – like glycolic acid, lactic acid, even citric acid. But, if it is a main ingredient in a skincare product, they will most likely promote that on the packaging.

I want to share with you my favorites & recommendations for great AHA products. Depending on your budget, there are great choices at all price ranges.

Low Price Range: $10 and under

The Ordinary AHA Peeling Solution – $7.20, image via Sephora
elf SuperTone AHA Toner – $8, image via elf cosmetics

I’ve recently been trying out this toner and LOVE the way it’s making my skin look & feel! It has cleared my hormonal acne, made my skin glow & has removed any dead skin. Highly recommend as an inexpensive option.

Mid Price Range – $30 and under

Glossier Exfoliating Skin Perfector – $24

These peel pads are seriously one of my holy grail products that I’ll never give up. They have transformed my skin and it’s texture. In just two minutes, your skin is left glowy and exfoliated – they’re my favorite on-the-go treatment.

High Price Range – $80 and up

Alright, if you’ve gotten more money to blow – or you’re a luxury products kind of person, this is for you. I’ve tried Sephora samples of these next two products and I recommend you do the same before pulling the trigger – you never know how your skin will react.

Drunk Elephant Baby Facial – $80

Well, there you have it! I hope you found some great options for your specific price range. As always, if you have super sensitive skin, AHA’s might be too harsh for your skin. Always patch test on your specific skin or ask your dermatologist! Since this is such an exfoliating product, I urge you to always apply sunscreen if you plan on getting any sun exposure after use!

Remember kids – getting dead skin off your face & turning those skin cells over is essential if you’re trying to prevent signs of aging. AHA’s have changed the game for me & I hope they do for you!

Until next time…

My Go-To Beauty Products Available on Amazon

Available with the click of a button.

Summer is coming & this is the time of year that I am always super motivated to take care of myself. Exercise, diet, skin – I love to be on top of it all when the weather starts taking a turn for the better.

With new routines, comes some amazing products that I want to give a shoutout to. Look, everyone’s busy. We don’t have time to run to the store anytime we need something. Believe it or not, some of my favorite beauty products in my routine are available to purchase on Amazon – making my life that much easier.

Without further ado, let’s get into my go-to beauty products available on Amazon…
Ice Roller, ~$10

If you already aren’t on this bandwagon, jump on in! Having a ice roller at my disposal for the past few years has been a game changer in my morning routine. We all wake up a little puffy after a night of drinking, salty foods, etc. Keeping an ice roller like this in the freezer to use while you drink your morning coffee, celery juice or tea is the most refreshing thing you can do to start off your day. It reduces inflammation, especially near my jawline and under eyes. Definitely a tool I’ll never give up!

Facial Steamer, $30-$40

Yes – this looks a little dramatic to be sitting on your bathroom counter, but it’s what we do for beauty, ladies! You know how fresh and dewy your skin feels when you step out of a hot shower? You can achieve that feeling everyday with this easy tool. A facial steamer will easily become the most relaxing component to your routine. The warm steam opens up your pores to allow products, especially serums, to absorb deeper and better into your skin. Pop on a podcast, your favorite album, or just enjoy some peace and quiet & add this extra dimension to your skincare routine.

Facial Spatula, $5

I’ve talked about my love for a good facial spatula before, but I need you all to know there are very inexpensive options available on Amazon! I use my facial spatula to apply masks, moisturizers, scrubs, anything to my face and it applies the product evenly without getting my hands covered in that, sometimes expensive, product! It’s such a simple tool that you may have never thought that you needed, but it makes application and cleanup so easy that I recommend you adding it to your cart during your next Amazon spree.

Silicon Face Mask, $10

Ok trust me, I know what this looks like – terrifying. But if you’re an avid-wearer of sheet masks, this may look like another Tuesday night to you. Why might you need this, you ask? I was struggling applying moisturizers and serums to my face, and 2 minutes later it seemed like they evaporated from my skin. Poof, gone. I then had the idea to research to see if there was anything like this, a mask you could use to allow that product to fully sink in. Apply your favorite moisturizer, serum, cream to your skin & then wear this Silicon Face Mask overtop for as long as you’d like. It keeps your skin moist and makes sure your skin doesn’t dry out or not fully allow the products to sink in. Yes, you may look like a serial killer with this thing on – but it’s the price we pay.

As for actual skincare products on Amazon, I usually steer clear. I’ve ordered moisturizers, lip care, etc. in the past, and sometimes they come from a different seller/supplier – creating the chance that the product isn’t legitimate or safe for your skin. As for tools, eat your heart out! Always check the reviews and take some of my recommendations & really spice up your beauty routine. Of course, none of these are necessary for perfect skin. Use what works for you!

Until next time,

✩ March Favorites ✩

Better late than never!

Hey ladies! So as you might’ve noticed, I’ve been gone for a couple weeks. I have been in Los Angeles working on a new TV show so I’ve been working 16 hour days. Now we’re back & better than ever and ready to deliver some of my favorite products from this past month! Let’s get right into it…

Quay Blue Light Glasses, $65

Alright, first up is probably my favorite product of this entire post. I finally caved and got some blue light glasses – I’m literally wearing them as I type this! If you’re not sure what they are, they block the blue light from our phones and computers from creating negative effects on our eyes. Extended exposure to blue light can disrupt your sleep cycle and create strain on your eyes. Nobody wants that! I’ve always seen the glasses on Amazon but when I saw this pair in the Quay store, I just had to. Not only are they stylish, they’re helping my eyes at the same time. Win, win!

Vermont Village Vinegar Shots, $16 per pack

None of us like to take the god awful apple cider vinegar shots, but the benefits have us drinking them through the pain. If you’ve ever had ACV, you know how acidic it is – meaning it’s not great for your teeth. I found these vinegar shots from Vermont Village that have a little more tolerable flavor and are meant to dilute in your water. This way, my teeth can be spared & I don’t mind consuming ACV everyday!

Kopari Coconut Deodorant, $14

This deodorant has been a lifesaver for me this month. As I mentioned earlier, I’ve been working in LA in the heat. I’ve been using natural deodorant for some time now, but this one from Kopari truly, truly works for me. This deo is aluminum-free which means you won’t have clogged pores in your armpits and prevents a harmful ingredient from getting into your bloodstream through those pores! I used to believe I would never find a natural deodorant that actually worked for me, until this one. It smells amazing, doesn’t leave white residue & is safe for your lymphatic system. If you’re wanting to make the switch, this is the #1 one I’d recommend!

Vital Proteins Collagen Shot – Glow

Speaking of wellness shots, here’s another one I’ve been loving! Vital Proteins is known for their collagen powders, but late last year they started selling individual liquid shots & I’m obsessed. I’ve been loving the “Glow” one because in just one little shot it has 7g collagen peptides, 60mg of hyaluronic acid, vitamin C and biotin. To put that in clearer terms, it’s amazing for your skin! I find mine in Whole Foods so I don’t have to buy an expensive bulk pack. Tequila shots on the weekends, collagen shots during the week!

Palmer’s Cocoa Butter Lotion, $6

Back in my January Favorites, I showed you guys my holy grail lip balm from Palmer’s. I discovered their Cocoa Butter Lotion this past month and my life was forever changed. This is the best naturally smelling & hydrating lotion I have ever used. I am pretty bad about regularly applying lotion, but I get excited about applying this stuff! It’s also super affordable and doesn’t contain drying fragrances. I’m obsessed.

There you have it – the products I’ve been obsessed with over the past month! These Favorites posts are always my favorite to write & I hope you were introduced to some new things! This month was all about wellness for me, so go ahead and get started with your self-care!

A Morning Beauty Routine Focused On Self-Care

I want to start off by prefacing this post with an admission. No matter what I say down below, I am still not a morning person. But, when I am able to pry my tired eyes open, I like to use my time wisely – on myself!

Whether you’re a busy mom, a working woman with absolutely no spare time or a tired college student, it is so important to take time for yourself! It’s not selfish, it’s imperative. I work in a nonconventional career, so I often have days off to be able to pamper myself a little bit. But, you can create your own routine based around your schedule. Here’s mine…

To be completely real, the first thing I do every single morning is check social media, emails & texts that came in overnight – for way longer than I should.. Then, I actually get my day started. As you’ve seen in my January Favorites post, I’m on a celery juice kick. It works most effectively when you drink it on an empty stomach, so before I do anything else, I go downstairs and get that celery juiced!

While I’m drinking that delicious (not!) juice, I grab my Ice Roller from the freezer and get to work on my face. Just like most people, I wake up with a very puffy face – not cute. I use an ice roller every morning to reduce inflammation in my cheeks and under eyes. For how cheap these are on Amazon, pick one up and add it into your routine! I couldn’t live without mine.

After making myself a healthy breakfast & a huge glass of water, it’s time to get into the good stuff. You guys know how much I love skincare products, so getting to actually use them is my favorite part of the day.

I start off by cleansing my skin & washing off all the oils that accumulated overnight. Based on how my skin is looking, and feeling, that morning I choose between two of my cleansers. If my skin is looking clear and just needs a pick-me-up, I reach for my Glossier Milky Jelly cleanser. It leaves my skin feeling conditioned and refreshed. But if I woke up with some problem areas, like acne, I go with my Mario Badescu Acne Facial cleanser. Listen to your skin every morning, some days it needs more help than others.

Before moving into any heavier products, it’s important to tone the skin! I used to not think this was an important step, but now it’s an essential step in my routine. If your skin ever feels “tight” after cleansing, it needs to be toned, or balanced! That’s where my Cucumber Cleansing Lotion (aka toner) from Mario Badescu, on a cotton round, comes into play. It’s designed for combo/oily skin so it reduces shine while also nourishing my skin. Yay!

If you’re going to use some type of serum, now is the time to apply it – before the moisturizer. The closer to your skin, the better; it won’t do much work if it’s blocked by a thick cream. Recently, I’ve been putting a lot of importance into my eyes. I have two different serums that I like to rotate between. When it’s an extremely early morning and my eyes are struggling to stay open, I use a roller ball eye serum – Morning Perk from Me Time Botanicals. This 100% natural product contains coffee and nourishing oils to wake those eyes up. If I want to focus more on the fine lines around my eyes, (yes, I’m 23 & they’re already there) I use an eye serum that contains Vitamin C & hyaluronic acid. I’ve been loving the Line Eraser Vitamin C eye serum from The Beauty Foundry. Hyaluronic acid helps hydrate the skin and reduce fine lines. Yes, please!

Finally, it’s time to moisturize. During the day, I like to use a lighter moisturizer so that my skin is a smoother (& less oily) slate for makeup. I’ve been loving the Drench & Quench daytime moisturizer from Bliss. It has a cream-to-water consistency and instantly melts into the skin which I love because it doesn’t leave my skin greasy. The last step to your skin routine every morning should be sunscreen. If you plan on leaving the house that day and your foundation doesn’t have SPF, slap some on there! Find the sunscreen that works best for your skin & lifestyle.

As lengthy as my morning skin routine seems, it’s really doable in minutes. If you find products that you love, you’ll be excited to use them every morning! I used to not put much effort in my mornings because I thought I could never find the time, but washing your face and slapping on a few products really won’t set you back much! Make yourself a bigger priority and you will thank yourself!

After my skin is done, it’s time to get to work or get a quick workout in & then my morning is gone! Everyone has a different morning routine, what’s yours?

Discounted High-End Beauty Products Waiting For You At TJ Maxx

Beauty on a budget.

We all would love to try all of the expensive and luxurious beauty products on the market, but that pesky wallet usually gets in the way. Every time that I’m browsing the aisles of Sephora and Ulta, I could easily drop hundreds of dollars in a matter of minutes. Not all of us have an exorbitant (big word of the day) beauty budget, so I’m convinced that’s why they created the heaven that is TJ Maxx.

I’m sure you know that TJ Maxx is known for their discounted candles, kitchenware & purses, but their beauty selection is insane. Nowadays, if I’m dying to try a new product that’s in a higher price range, I always check to see if my local TJ Maxx has it in stock. More often than not, I find amazing and high-end products for nearly half the price. On my most recent trip, I found some killer finds that should have you running there now…

Clinique All About Eyes Serum $65, $39.99

Yes, I found a Clinique product for $25 off! If you’ve ever tried this brand, you know that it’s definitely worth the money. But if you can save a ton of money, double win. Also, eye products run major prices nowadays & I’ve been looking for a good deal. Who knew it was waiting for me at a TJ Maxx? Very excited about this one.

Vital Proteins Beauty Collagen $33, $19.99

Ladies, let’s talk. No matter what age you are, it’s time to start incorporating collagen into your life. It’s good for your joints and amazing for your skin. One of my favorite brands for collagen products is hands down Vital Proteins. I love pretty much everything they do, so when I saw Beauty Collagen (to make my favorite minty collagen water) for a major discount, I threw it in the cart. Shopping is way more fun at a bargain.

Kate Somerville Wrinkle Warrior $56, $19.99

Kate. Somerville. I am a huge fan of this brand and I’ve been dying to try this pink plumping mask so in the cart it went. Just like this instance, I love going to TJ Maxx and finding these higher priced products at a discount. So, I can test a bunch of products, instead of just splurging on one! Getting $30 off means you can spend that on more items, yay!

Drybar Double Standard $8, $4.99 & Drybar Detox $23, $9.99

If you’ve never tried a Drybar product for your hair, now is the time. I will rant and rave over their dry shampoo, but spending $23 on one always hurts a little. Seeing this brand at a discount is a surefire way to make a sale with me. TJ Maxx has a crazy variety of hair products that they sell, but this was one of the trendier items that I just couldn’t pass up.

Origins Three Part Harmony Eye Duo $70, $34.99

Origins for 50%? Alright, I’m calling the police. Origins has always been a brand that I’ve loved since I was little because it’s one of my mom’s go-to’s. But since it’s not drugstore price, it’s not something I usually reach for. The fact that TJ Maxx had it for 1/2 off blew my mind! Either they don’t understand the value of what they’re pricing or they’re miracle workers. You can decide.

First Aid Beauty Anti-Redness Serum $36, $12.99

I don’t know what the weather has been like in your neck of the woods, but the polar vortex that just came through last week caused some very unwanted redness in my skin. First Aid Beauty always comes in clutch whenever my skin goes through crazy dry stages, especially due to weather. They had a ton of products at my TJ Maxx but this one seemed most relevant in my life at the moment!

Makeup, makeup, makeup.

Although I didn’t dive into the makeup realm in this post, TJ Maxx has some amazing cosmetics brands and products. I always see Anastasia Beverly Hills, Stila, Buxom and Becca in Sephora, but I can buy it discounted? Count me in. No, TJ Maxx isn’t going to have the brand new line and collection. BUT, if you’re someone who is interested in a brand, being able to test and dive into their products at a discount is always a good idea.

So, you get the gist: TJ Maxx is the sh*t! Of course, not every single store will have the same exact products. But, knowing that they carry exciting and high-end beauty products for major discounts has me hooked. Next time you’re in a TJ Maxx, give the beauty section a glance. I love seeing what great brands I can find & how cheap I can get them for. What is your favorite TJ Maxx find of all time?
