Hollywood’s Biggest Night: My 2019 Oscars Predictions

I care about this way too much.

Anyone that knows me knows that my favorite season isn’t summer or spring, it’s awards season. As someone who works in the film industry and sees about two movies per week, you could understand why I get so excited about the Academy Awards every year!

Since tonight is the big night, I like to put my predictions out in the universe so I can “grade” myself during the show. I know, these are the types of things I do in my spare time. I saw a lot of amazing films this past year and I can’t wait to see which ones get their deserving recognition! Without further ado, here are my 2019 Oscars predictions…

“Roma” – Although my favorite movie of the year was “Bohemian Rhapsody,” I don’t think it will be bringing home the gold because of the recent controversy involving the director. However, “Roma” has been getting the most praise this season, not only for the amazing story & international aspects, but for being from a streaming service. It would be awesome to see a Netflix film win Best Picture!

Rami Malek – Please, for the love of God, let this award go to Rami Malek. If you’ve seen “Bohemian Rhapsody,” you will agree with me on this wholeheartedly. His transformation into and portrayal of Freddie Mercury still gives me chills every time I re-watch the film. He has gone home with many awards this season, so I believe he will be adding another one tonight.

Glenn Close – Although I didn’t see “The Wife” this year, I have a pretty strong feeling Close is going home her first Oscar after seven nominations. She’s been getting nothing but praise and applause for this recent role and was able to snag the Golden Globe for it as well.

Alfonso Cuarón – I would be surprised if Alfonso doesn’t go home with this one! I see him winning Best Picture & Director for his amazing work on “Roma.” Also, I was able to come to this conclusion when comparing him to the other nominees & because he also won the Globe for this one as well!

Mahershala Ali/Regina King – One of my favorite performances of the entire year was Ali in “Green Book.” I still don’t understand why he’s in the Supporting category instead of Best Actor, but he definitely should be going home with this award. As for Regina King, her performance in “If Beale Street Could Talk” without a doubt should have her awarded. She also went home with the Globe and Critics Choice Award so she should be pretty happy about this award season!

“Shallow” – If you’ve been riding the “A Star is Born” train since it’s release in October, you probably know every word to this song. Even though the film got a ton of Oscar buzz initially, I think this is going to be the one award they will be going home with tonight. Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper kill this song & it truly is the focal point of the entire film. I’d be shocked if any other song snags this one.

“Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” – This is one I am super passionate about. I am a huge comic book movie nerd, like huge. When I first saw the trailer for this film, I honestly thought it was aimed more towards children, being animated and all. But, this film was one of my favorites of the entire year. I’m all for “Avengers” and “Deadpool” Marvel movies, but this one was different. The animation alone is incredible & sets it apart from the other nominees. Please, just don’t let it be “Isle of Dogs.”

Although there are tons upon tons of more categories, I won’t bore you with the details. I’ll leave that to the extra extensive bracket that I make my parents and boyfriend participate in every year! What are some of your major predictions? Let me know down below!
